So with classes starting up again soon, and me on the road a lot, I finally bought a laptop.  The old dell just couldn't handle itself anymore and went to a new owner from ebay.

    Specs on my new book:
2.1 GHz C2d (the new one, T8100 i think with the 3mb of L2 Cache)
    3GB ram
    nVidia geForce 8400m with purevideo
    blu-ray player
    250 gb HD

thats the important stuff. I just finished all the setup crap and now I'm deleting all those junk applications that come with the machine.  Just thought I'd share

Hell no, dell is crap. this new baby is an HPDv600t I think is the model number.
I DJ using PCDJ Red and Virtual DJ and it handles it like a dream. I even ran PC DJ FX this last weekend to control the lights at the dance event and it was like butter. Live mixing, light control, scratching, you name it and this machine handled it.

sounds sick man, what you playin these days?

pcdj red is good. traktor 3.3 is best. ableton live is god. virtual dj is oldskool. deckadance and torq are good traktor alternatives, all 3 of which can be used without an external soundcard. blagh, i'll see you on vent soon enough. the HPs aren't bad, in the last month i've seen 3 powerbook pros die, and 4 dell vostro 1310's. i think that all laptops are the devil, wait, we believe in the devil right?

i just want the cpu punch to run 4 decks at once with advanced key locking algorithms all being tracked by real vinyl tracking inputs through the USB 2.0 external soundcard. with less than a 5ms total latency. is that too much to ask? oh and a midi controller controlling samples, loops, and FX. the USB lag alone is about 2 ms each way, so i need a beast that can deliver in real-time. also VST plug-ins through cakewalk and bussing the master out back into the beast to record uncompressed wavs.

i totally spun a warehouse break-in style rave the other week, i actually got through my set before the fuzz showed up, some kid jumped down a 3 story garbage chute and broke himself, schmuck can't even handle the brown acid. other than that and some broad dancing on the dj booth and kicking out the power from my mixer (she got a slap on the ass) the rest was good. pleanty of debauchery unfit for these public forums buahaha!

Nice Lappie Skinnr... sounds like you have a winner. I also have to agree with what Slick has said on the Dj Software. I particularly like Traktor 3. I have never personally used it myself by I have seen DJ's here where I am at use them in conjunction with the scratch software and the hardware that basically consists of an interface module for the Technics 1200's or whatever preferred table you like to use and 2 dummy vinyls that help control it. The first time I saw this the guys set up was basically an Apple Lap top running Traktor and using the vinyl setup. The kit also comes with 2 dummy cd's if you went all out and got yourself a nice set of Pioneer DJ Decks
