so i rocked my first wedding gig lastnight, tried to play some music for the kids, but oi vey the old people fucking mobbed me and were about to riot if i didn't play more Dean Martin. actually the biggest hit was fuking ABBA. i swear it's like catnip for anyone who lived through the 70's. I could have just put on the ABBA GOLD cd and come back an hour later. And old jewish women hitting on me is great fun, also young drunk jewish women just running up to me and shouting: "BLACK EYED PEAS" before almost falling down, then stumbling away, also fun. i remember having the floor packed, then dropping california love by 2pac, getting some EVIL looks, and clearing the whole dancefloor, before getting jumped by angry pissed jews each with about 30 requests. that was the highlight for me.

weddings as a whole are pretty terrible and tedious, but this one was alright. mostly cause i made off well, most i've ever made from a single gig, $300 big boys. hot damn.

yeah, so if you know anyone who's looking for a SERIOUS party. tell em slick's the w3rd. they just have to pay for my airfare, accomodation, and party favours.

Dude...you're in the kiddie pool if you're only getting $300 for a wedding.

The guy I DJ'd for charged anywhere from $800-$3000 depending on how much they wanted.

But yeah, the weirdest shit is a hit at weddings. Anything thats old school, like, WAY old school. 70's and 80's rock never goes wrong. KC and teh Sunshine fags are a hit, and yeah, for cocktail hour, dean martin and some ol blue eyes keeps it legit.

Not to mention, throw a couple glances to the bridemaids and she'll get the bride to slip you a $100 tip by the time the nights over. OH, and drink with them, those who drink together, bond together, and get their money.

spoken like a true heeb. yes KC and the sunshine band i dropped, the old rat pack stuff the oldies love, some leonard cohen, you know the stuff. and my 70's collection can rival any other collection out there.

yeah, i netted $300 that's not what was charged. after lighting, soundsystem, microphone rentals etc, plus a truck rental to move it all around, that's what costs real money. total bill was about $700, which was still incredibly low i know, that's why i got the gig, cause i preyed on the groom's jewey sensibilities. i have hookups with the local music rental places, and can get great deals. also they were financing the wedding themselves, no rich parents or anything, so they were looking to cut costs wherever possible. i got a $50 tip for breakdancing with some of the 8 year old kids. (i'm such a pedo). but $50 was alot compared to their budget.

shit i played montreal this weekend, and i walked away with $30 after food, party favours, drinks, (which was only $50 worth, not like i went on a $500 bender or anything) etc. $300 looks great compared to $30. le sigh.

a friend of mine just facebooke'd that he's getting hitched, and i flew in there like a hawk to secure the DJ position. but THIS motherfucker has rich parents, so he'll be falling a bit more towards the $1200-1500 side of the scale. hopefully. fuck man, i gotta get me a real job one of these days. or get super famous or something. is verizon hiring?

so when did you DJ? i'm guessing it was for a company right? yeah those guys charge 3k eaaasily, cause it has to feed like 10 people in the company, pay for their warehouse, all of their equipment purchases, repairs, etc. how much did they pay you just for DJing though? i used to work for a company that did highschool dances and stuff, they'd charge about 4-5k. and i'd get paid $100. that wasn't even the bad part, they got sponsorship, to put up "playstation" banners or whatever at the dance, so playstation would pay them an extra grand for promo that they'd just pocket. each event generated about 8-10k. and the DJ got nothing.

Yeah, I worked for a guy who owned his own small djing company.
I got $100 for the first 5 hours, then $20 an hour after that if it went longer, plus tips.
