AMD Southern Islands GPU codenames leaked
Thanks to the Catalyst 11.7 drivers, some driver entries were spotted for the soon-to-be released Southern Islands generation of AMD GPUs. The codenames behind the Southern Island series are "Lombok", "Thames", "Tahiti" and "New Zealand". At the moment nothing is concrete, but it looks as though "New Zealand" will be the creme of the crop being a dual-GPU based card based off of two "Tahiti" GPUs.
"Thames" is looking to be a low-cost mobile chip, but it could also be a performance chip - there's no guarantee at the moment until more information surfaces. But, the codenames themselves should be enough to get some of that fanboy fighting to surface again.

Information about video cards AMD Radeon HD 7000
July 4th, 2011 admin Posted in Computer Hardware, News | No Comments »
Details on future accelerators AMD Radeon HD 7000 series in the early leaked version of the driver Catalyst 11.7. AMD last month revealed details of the architecture of its future graphics processors, which will apply in the next series of accelerators Radeon HD 7000, while the well-known under the code name Southern Islands.
Judging by the leaked data, AMD in the next generation of its graphics cards and dual-chip is going to present the flagship accelerator, code-named New Zealand, which will be called Radeon HD 7990 and will replace the Radeon HD 6990 market.
Single-chip high-end graphics cards are the code names Tahiti XT and Tahiti Pro, and the market will be known respectively as the Radeon HD 7970 and Radeon HD 7950, replacing the Radeon HD 6970/6950 solutions based on the Antilles.
Accelerators average Thames XT (HD 7870) and Thames Pro (HD 7850), as well as indicate their names, will replace the HD 6850/6870 on the basis of Barts. Thames LE (HD 7790) will be the replacement for Barts LE (HD 6790).
Finally, considerable interest is the middle card / entry level. The fact that, as reported, the video card Radeon HD 7670/7570 (based on the chip, code-named Lombok), the technology to replace Radeon HD 6670/6650 (chip Turks), will rely on relatively old, although well proven in graphics card series Radeon HD 6900 architecture, VLIW-4D.
Details regarding the frequency and number of computing units will be announced in the coming months: according to rumors, the company will introduce new cards in the last quarter of the year. Some data indicate that even in September as a possible release date. It would be very interesting: in this case, AMD would offer their fans a whole new platform once the 28-nm graphics card Radeon HD 7000 and the 32-nm processors FX. A very solid start. Perhaps it is the desire to provide products at the same time, and caused AMD to delay the output processor architecture Bulldozer.
NVIDIA is also working on a full swing with new graphics cards with the architecture of Kepler. The yield of these cards are rumored to also take place in the last quarter of the year. Well, the Holiday Season on the market graphics cards is expected to be very hot. |

Looks like we may have to wait until early 2012.
This means I'm going to stop waiting and upgrade my Radeon HD 5770. Any suggestions? The GTX 590 is too expensive, so something below that would be what I'm looking for.

if that site you link is true, i'd be pretty sad. cause it sorta seems like he's trolling. i mean, this gen was supposed to be 28nm, they both bade a huge stink about it. the last 2 gens were also 40nm. a 3rd one would be just retarded. no point in upgrading if it's not 28nm. you'll only see marginal improvements over last years same parts. also, i wouldn't jump the gun yet erikson, right now this is heresay. not to mention BF3 isn't out yet. wait until november and BF3 has been out for a week. chances are we'll know what's actually going on by then. anything you can buy right now is just "ech" to me, i mean my 5870 still kicks ass and gives me 90+ fps in BC2 on med-high. and that card's 2 years old in september. it was the smart time to buy, cause it was the first card on the new 40nm process at the time. makes me happy, means that if they stay 40nm for one more year, i'll get a full 3 years of my card being fully dominant. |

Erikkson brah, you and I are a pair where we cannot wait for shit, but this is one of those few things you can wait for. you are upgraded by a tiny little bit for nothing at this point. what do you even play? BC2 you can run just fine. wait for bf3 if they aren't out by then by all means upgrade. Prices will be less then too. |

looks like they're starting with mobile varients of the new 28nm chips, then rolling out the desktop big daddies in second quarter... that's a fucking long way away.
fuck
goddamnit fuckidy fuck fuck.
usually happens the other way around, then the mobile sector coming last, and the desktop first. i guess these guys are more complicated than most maybe? so they're starting with underclocked chips made for low heat laptops first...
http://www.maxishine.com.au/forums/...p;p=244020
wow, this one says maybe third quarter, that's like a fucking year away. just when you thought PC gaming was going to have some sort of renaissance, by the time we get truely NEXT GEN hardware, i bet the new consoles will be coming out the next month...
anyways, they're moving to a new architecture on the high-end 7900 series ATI cards, i've read about the new one, but i thought that all 7xxx cards would be on this new tech, turns out only the high end cards will be, the mid and low end cards will just be the 6xxx series architecture on a smaller chip.
i bet these 7xxx guys are gonna be fucking nasty.
now buying a 580 to tide me over doesn't seem like such a crazy idea....? |
